Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Dive Team,
and Technical Water Response Team are responding to the 45200 Sauk Rd in the
Darrington area for a reported drowning. At about 2;08 pm Skagit Sheriff’s
Office received a report from a cell phone caller who said “drowning, Darrington
area” and the call was lost. The coordinates of the cell phone showed the
area of 45200 Sauk Rd. There is no answer when calling the number back.
Deputies are on scene but at the time of this release have not located the
caller or anyone with information on a drowning. The Dive Team and
Technical Water Rescue Response Team are still on route to the scene.
This is still an active scene, Search and Rescue
Helicopter SNOHAWK is also assisting in the search.
5:40 PM *****UPDATE******
At about 1800 hours Snohomish County Search and Rescue
units, including a number of Dive Team, Technical Water Response, Volunteer
staff, SNOHAWK One helicopter and hovercraft units completed a search for a
reported drowning victim on the Sauk River near Darrington. While no victims
or the reporting party were found, remnants of a camp site were found near the
river and according to fire staff, a couple of people were seen in the area as
fire personnel arrived at the original call. Deputies believe this was a false
911 call and will continue to follow up on the incident.
