GRANITE FALLS, Wash. – On July 5, 2013 at about 5:45 PM
SNOPAC Dispatch received an emergency call from a male hiker near the summit of
According to the caller, he had injured his
ankle during a day hike and could not walk off the mountain so Snohomish County
Search and Rescue assets were dispatched to the location.
Reportedly the male and two companions were in the snowline at about
5,100 foot level and were starting a fire to warm them.
SNOHAWK 1 was dispatched to the mountain and attempted to
evacuate the injured hiker but weather conditions blocked their access to the
area. As of this release, a Search
and Rescue Team had hiked in and met the hikers to assess them and determine if
the injured male could be evacuated tonight or wait until daylight when
additional rescuers join them and help with the rescue.
