Serve Legal Documents

 

CIVIL UNIT SERVICES

 

 

For a fee, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Civil Unit will process and serve a wide range of court documents filed in Washington and other states:

 

Notice of Small Claim Petitions Subpeonas
Civil Summons Family Law Actions Restraining or Harassment Order
Complaint Divorce Actions Orders to Show Just Cause
Citations Parenting Plan Out of State Court Orders

 

 

FEE SCHEDULE FOR SERVICE OF PROCESS

SNOHOMISH COUNTY CODE 2.10.035

EFFECTIVE January 2005 ** Updated January 2012

 

IN STATE REQUEST:  $100.00 Advance estimate to serve above documents

 

OUT OF STATE REQUEST:  $200.00 Advance estimate to serve above documents

 

Fees not used on mileage will be refunded.  Non refunded fees include service, return, notary, & copy.

(Double the advance fees for remote locations within the county such as Darrington, Gold Bar, Index, or Sultan)

 

·         Fees charged are mandated by Snohomish County Code Chapter 2.10 and are payable in advance.

·         Service fees are based on the type of legal document you want served.  Amounts are listed on the Sheriff’s Office web site (web address above).

·         Forms of Payment are cash, Checks & Money Orders.  Checks are made payable to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).  At this time we do NOT accept credit/debit cards.

·         Service of Process:  When the action is completed, we will total the actual fees.  If a refund is due we will issue a refund check for the amount of the deposit not used or you will be billed for additional fees due. 

·         The Civil Unit will make several attempts at service based on how much time we have to serve and our ability to locate the person(s) you wish to have served.  We do not guarantee service.

·         The business hours of the SCSO Civil Unit are 9:00am to 5:00PM.   Closed weekends and Legal Holidays.   Civil Deputies in the field will make attempts at service between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday through Friday.

·         To more effectively assist you, we need to know information about the person(s) to be served.  Please complete the intake (located on the Sheriff’s Office Web Site) form as completely as you can.

PLEASE NOTE: we do not transfer custody of children except under court order (Writ of Habeas Corpus)
